Video Gaming and Cuddling: the Connection

Updated: Mar 1, 2021

Connection! That's right, connection. This is a key word you will see pop up like an exclamation marker in Metal Gear Solid during your journey in the cuddle community. Have you ever had that moment were you think to yourself: this game really connects with me? There is a reason for that. It resonates with your passions, your desires and the things you wish to do in this world. And just like a good cuddle, it simply is a lot of fun! The concepts of cuddling and video gaming may seem far apart at first glance, but as we will show they have more in common than they are given credit.

Playing an effectively immersive game is literally surrendering yourself to a fantasy. A fantasy were your senses, your need for adventure and even your need for companionship are fulfilled in one very elaborate, artistically rendered computer programed reality. You enter this world, lured by a feeling of curiosity, discovery, magic and mystery. A whole environment is created for you to explore and have your story unfold in. Cuddling is much the same in that you are immersing yourself in a moment filled with so many wonderful touches and textures for your senses to take in. So many adventures to be explored with yourself and another. And just like the video game, you are encouraged to play to your heart's desire. Play! It feels fantastical, yet its actually real, with a whole another real person in the flesh right there with you. Not an NPC or an online player from the other side of the country but instead an inperson person!

Touch connects you with this world much like the buttons and analog stick of a controller or mousepad connects you with your avatar in the video game world. Touch also has the ability to connect you with your own body. Not just in the obvious ways. You can discover sensations and pleasures that you never thought possible with a little exploration and playfulness. Not to mention the connection with other people through the release of the hormone oxytocin from close, physical contact. Interestingly enough, playing video games triggers similar chemical reactions with good feelings ensuing.

In video games, you are given a wide degree of freedom, especially in sandbox and open world games. If you want to jump, you can jump. If you want to climb a tower, you can climb that tower. You can create the adventure and reality you want for yourself. With a cuddle partner, you can design the experience and moment you want for yourself so long as it is done with consent. In a general sense, many possibilities will be open to you. Maybe you want to play with hair. Maybe you want to run in circles together. Play hide and seek. Have a deep, meaningful conversation. Build a fort. Or maybe just a nice long spoon. You get to choose, and provided that your cuddler is a yes to those activities, you get the chance to have an adventure you otherwise would not have had in the same way you would not have had the experience of a good video game if you had not decided to give it a try.

This is especially true in the case of professional cuddlers were you are given the chance to envision and negotiate what your session will look like. Just as games are unique so are people. Some cuddle partner's boundaries will be more like an open world game, some boundaries will be more like rail shooters and side scrollers. These boundaries and preferences are like a specific style of gameplay. Finding the right style of cuddling that works for the both of you is similar to finding a game genre that is to your liking and a good match for the way you want to play. Respect the code of conduct the way you would in an online match. Just as you wouldn't want anyone hacking your game and unfairly harming your character, you don't do the same to people in real life. Don't hack anyone's boundaries. When we are not laboring to ruin each other's games, we have the tremendous opportunity to enrich each other's games and our own. A nurturing place of mutual respect and safety has the potential to unlock some of the most enjoyable and fulfilling moments of your life and the lives of others.

Ask yourself, what game title are you feeling like today? What difficulty setting do you desire? Soft? Gentle? Affectionate? What mode? Storyline, Zombies or Cuddle Monster? Competitive, cooperative or cocreation? One player or multiplayer? Definitely multiplayer! The path to connection is clear and adventure awaits! Now go play, play, play!
