Nerd to the Future

People of the past have always been trying to predict the future, and occasionally making an interesting story out of it. From Verne's Paris in the 20th Century and Bellamy's Looking Backward: 2000 - 1887 to Orwell's 1984 and of course the Jetsons! A somewhat more recent entry, Back to the Future Part 2 has become infamous for both it's accurate predictions and disappointing shortcomings: where's our REAL flying cars and hover boards already? And that was suppose to be 2015! Here we are now in 2024. Doesn't at least sound futuristic?

Growing up what did you think of the future? What did you imagine it would look like once in happened? Do you find yourself impressed by all the new gadgets and scientific advancements or were you expecting more for the world. something more for yourself?

I think a lot of us have been there on that timeline; setting the bar way too high on where we would be in the future. Often the circumstances of the future are beyond our control, but often times they are within our agency, especially when it comes to our own lives and those around us that are impacted by our existence and efforts. But the future doesn't go anywhere but forward. We may have missed the mark, skipped a beat or forgot to make a turn somewhere, we still have something ahead. Dystopia aside, we still have tomorrow. Possibilities will always outlast expectations. Good or bad!

Nurtured Nerds is very much a community that is still growing and looking for ways to help Nurture the future, both for ourselves and each other- meaning you too! We may not have envisioned things being one way or the other to actualization, but we are still here and we still welcome you in all your perfectly-imperfect Nerdiness! Speaking of imperfection, This blog is long, long overdue and was originally met to be posted by New Years 2023! Better late than never right? Nurtured Nerds is still around just as the future is/will be/or whatever! As Doc Brown says in the closing of Back to the Future Part 3, "The furture isn't written", because if it were, then it would be the past already. It's an on-going creation that hasn't yet materialized, but will one day. So why not keep creating it, and creating it in the way you wish it to be rather than simply expecting it? See you around...in the future.

Excellent commentary. The future keeps happening. We have no control over that, but we do have control over our direction. Small changes now can amount to large course corrections down the road. Keep on keeping on.
